ハスの花床が蜂の巣のように見えることに由来し、早朝に美しい花を咲かせ、昼には閉じます。食用、薬用、観賞用として多く活用されています。ラーメン店などで使用する陶製スプーンの蓮華（れんげ）は、蓮の花（蓮華）から散った一枚の花びらに見立てられています。花言葉は「清らかな心」

Lotus

The name comes from the flowerbed that resembles a beehive. The lotus blooms beautiful flowers early in the morning and closes around noon. It is widely used as food, medicine and ornament. The ceramic spoon used in a "ramen" restaurant has a lotus flower ("renge") drawn on it which is regarded as a piece of petals scattered from a lotus flower. The flower message is "clean mind".
